I do plan to make a thread with tips about converting from VRay to Cycles in the near future. Render time for both were about 1min and 20sec.

My custom script save me days of manual work in converting this scene. from various rendering engines to V-Ray, as well as reverse converting V-Ray materials to Standard (Default Scanline) materials, which is very useful for game developers, 3D modelers, etc.

Export time of 1 minute and the same for the import. V-RayMtl Converter is a very useful professional tool to automate time-consuming process like converting materials, maps, lights, cameras, proxies, modifiers, etc. I did change the tone-mapping and light intensities for my own preference. Did some minor material adjustments and adjusted the light intensities.
This scene has over 100+ lights, 200+ materials and 800+ textures. See below an example of an Evermotion scene AI-50. I took me about 3 months to finally have an importer for VRay 3dsmax production type archviz scenes. Their also cameras, environment and FBX importer issues.
Lights has to handle IES, spot, area, point, and HDRI and power intensity is very different, Materials in VRay have many important difference compare to Cycles from diffuse, metallic, reflection, refraction, opacity and PBR. This is not an easy task to handle properly many of the VRay production features into Blender and Cycles. I basically rewrote all the mayor parts of this script. The importer script from MAXtoBlender that use “3dm2b.xml” to import into Blender it has a lot of problems I found a least 30 issues from minor to mayor. It will create file “3dm2b.xml” with a list of all the materials, cameras, lights, and other of your scene. Start with MAXtoBlender the export part from 3dsmax works fine. IMPORTANT: To convert materials between different renderers, it is imperative that you have these renderers on your system.Currently their is no converter for archviz production type V-ray 3dmax scenes to Blender. Otherwise, procedural maps are baked into textures or removed if the resulting materials can be used without them. As for special procedural maps, they are converted only if there is an analogue. Also, all the textures that are used for the above parameters are saved. V-RayMtl Converter converts the source materials into other specified material with the maximum possible preservation of the basic properties of the material, such as diffuse, specular, opacity (including filter), glossiness, roughness, bump, displacement, selfillumination (emission), translucency, reflection, refraction. But despite these differences, we tried to achieve the maximum possible accuracy of the conversion, which the our plugin provides an average of 90-98% In this regard, the physical parameters of materials are also significantly different. None of the existing converters can provide 100% accuracy of the conversion due to the fact that the principle of the different renderer engines differs, and sometimes differs significantly. V-RayMtl Converter are officially tested by the Autodesk® team and also is available in the Autodesk App Store More detailed information about the new features and capabilities of the converter can be found here:
